Gibb, Bill
Bill Gibb is one of a handful of great designers that passed away from us far too early. His name has nearly vanished from mainstream fashion, but had he not passed so early, I am sure he would be a household name. His imagination and creativity in design was way before his time. Bill Gibb was born in New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire in 1943. His talent was encouraged by his art teacher early on, and he attended the Royal College of Art, London from 1966 - 1968. He founded the Alice Paul clothing boutique in London from 1967 - 1969 and worked as a freelance designer, including working for Baccarat, London from 1969 - 1972. In 1972 he founded and became chairman of the Bill Gibb Fashion Group, London. His first shop was opened in Bond Street, London, in 1975. His is most famous for his "fairy tale" style dresses, his collaboration in knits with his friend Kaffe Fassett, and his bee motif that appears on many of his creations.
