Rosenstein, Nettie
In the 1920s, poor, immigrant, Jewish women really didn't have many opportunities for fortune and fame, but Nettie defied all the odds and became one of the greatest fashion designers of her time. She was born in Austria and immigrated to New York in the 1890s. She married in 1913 and began to make dresses from her home. In 1919 I Magnin started selling her dresses and gowns and by the 1930s she was a house hold name. Nettie won the Neiman Marcus Fashion award in 1938 and the Coty award in 1947.
