1960s Bill Gibb Ensemble

$ 0.00

.Bill Gibb is one of my top 5 favorite designers of all time! Unfortunately, his pieces are so rare I hardly ever get to admire them in person, but every piece I have had the honor to know has blown my mind. Gibb is often compared to his contemporaries Ossie Clarke, Zandra Rhodes and Thea Porter, all of which lead the 1960s fashion scene.

Scottish born, studied fashion at the Royal Collage of Art, and burst into the fashion scene around 1967. By 1970s Vogue named him the Designer of the Year. ..Just look at this dress! The bodice is black, shiny rayon (I think rayon), embellished with embroidery, hand bead work and the darling pink ribbons that tie at the back. The skirting is comprised of two layers. The inner layer is white pleated cotton with a lace trim. The outer layer is also white cotton, covered with six layers of fine cotton eyelet ruffles.

The little jacket is incredible as well. The lace is super fine, and when worn against the skin, it feels like air. The jacket has just a touch of the pink ribbon to tie it in with the dress (no pun intended). ..I believe this dress dates to his 1975 Spring collection as I have found a similar example using this lace and ribbon work.
