1980s Chanel Zip Up Dress

$ 0.00
In the early 80s, Karl Lagerfeld took the helm of the famed, but struggling house of Chanel and allowed it to progress into the powerhouse it is today. Much of what he did in Chanel was in the Coco style... the suits, the jewelry... homage to the great Gabrielle.... but every season seamed to have one or two garments that were pure Karl. This fabulous dress is one of the essential Lagerfeld pieces created in his early years at Chanel.
The label states its collection #28, which I am assuming was in the late 80s or very early 90s. The color is jet black. It is 94% viscose, and 6% elasthane. The body of the dress is a stretchy crepe, the sleevs and collar are a very tight sweater knit. The CC logo on the left breast is leather. The heavy front zipper is gold tone, the little black buttons on the breast pockets have gold CC logos as well (actually, they are snaps that look like buttons). The waist has a thick elastic band that calls out for a huge Chanel belt, but if you didn't want to be that obvious, it looks fabulous naked too. The dress is unlined and there are two huge pockets on the front hips.
The style has an almost millitary look. It also reminds me of a Robert Palmer vidieo.. Addicted to Love I think it was, with the severe girls in black dresses. This is so very striking, and so incredibly unique. A statment piece for sure.
