1980s Jean Louis Scherrer Pleated & Beaded Gown

This beautiful haute couture gown is a classic example of Scherrer's eye for grace, construction and the art of the drape. It is made enitrely of layers of buttercream silk chiffon. The bodice is so finely gathered, one would think he learned the technique from Jean Desses or Mdm Gres. The skirt is made from 3 layers of chiffon over a base of silk charmeuse. The skirt is smooth in the front with a slight gather and a little train in the back.
The awesome applique at the left hip was obviously made by the skilled hands at Lesage. It is not your typical cheesy 80s sequin accent, rather is a jewel made of tiny sequins, gold threads, prong set crystals, cut crystal beads and glass bugle beads. Each tiny detail was hand applied. It is an exquisite adornment to a glorious silk creation.
