1970s Valentino Silk Floral Dress
$ 0.00
Ah Valentino! Not everything he made in the 70s is relevant in today's wardrobe, so those that are, are highly prized and adored. This rare beauty is one such creation that will never go out of style.
The dress is made from printed silk chiffon. The chrysanthemum floral print featuring Valentino red, mandarin orange and shades of turquoise. The midriff area is the only part that is lined in silk. It is also quilted with vertical lines to give it even more stability. There is a petersham ribbon sewn inside the waist area to keep it all in place. The skirting flows down from the waist in graceful pleats. The pleats are closed from the waist down 6 1/2" then they open to a fluid folds. The skirt is 2 layers of chiffon, one printed, the lining is sky blue. The top is the most striking element of the dress. Triangles of chiffon come up from the high waist to tie at the back of the neck with long ribbons of chiffon. All edges of the halter are trimmed with 2" of ruffled chiffon, the ruffle was actually made by hand with hand sewn rolled edges, even the long tie area has this ruffle so just imagine the time it took to create this masterpiece.
There are mild condition issues. I see a small repair to the chiffon at the base of the zipper, it is barely seen. I also see that the former owner shortened the dress, the hem was hand done and looks great, but the lining chiffon was poorly cut and not finished. It does not effect the look of the dress when it is worn.
