1970s Halston Chiffon Ensemble

$ 0.00

Every time I get my hands on a good Halston, I generally go through the same process. First I view it as a whole, admiring the look, drape and feel. After that I start to decipher the actual construction, finding what makes it so darn special.
This little ensemble took my breath away when I started to discover its secrets. The skirt is a marvel. Its dual color chiffon, one a soft salmon, the outer is rich red. Technically there are 4 layers of chiffon, but to my amazement I find each color is one enormous piece of silk, spiral cut and doubled up, so there is no hem, the fabric just pours down, loops up then is sewn at the waist (elastic). I have always been a fan of the Halston spiral, but this design really pushed the boundaries. Note how the front is slightly higher than the back, its just a delight.
The top is just as incredible as the skirt. It is also the dual color chiffon, and the chiffon also doubles back on itself. The only seams are down the sides and the top of the shoulders. The two layers (actually 4) are free from each other at the neckline, and hand sewn around the arms. I don't know how he got the neck in both the front and the back to drape so perfectly. It too has elastic at the waist.
