1960s Adele Simpson Velvet Dress & Belt
I purchased this dress from a woman who referred to Adele Simpson as "Auntie Adele". Apparently when this gal was working in the fashion industry she developed a close relationship with Mrs. Simpson and acquired a few choice pieces from her over the years. All the pieces I saw were couture, many were from runway shows. This one in particular struck me as a stunning piece.
Its made of rich cotton velveteen, fully lined in burgundy silk. Its a crossover wrap style, the bodice is open and wraps over itself, the skirting is closed with a large pleat that folds to complete the wrap. There is a hook and snaps at the waist to keep it together. There are side pockets also lined in silk, and tiny zippers at the wrists.
The belt is unsigned but I do think it is also by Adele Simpson. It came to the previous owner directly from Simpson along with the dress. It is beautiful gold tone metal with glass stones, two opaque red (like bloodstone), one turquoise alternately along the belt with a clear red. Each jewel is surrounded by an ornate setting. The belt has a hook on one end.
