They say Sybil Connolly single handedly resurrected the failing Irish Linen industry with her pleated creations. It is said that it takes 9 yards of this fine Linen to create 1 pleated yard. As you can see from the last photo showing the underside of the skirt, the pleats are all created with little stitches, all made by hand. Connolly's pleats were described as being like the gills of a mushroom, and indeed, that is a very good comparison. This beautiful ensemble consists of a jacket and a skirt, either could be worn with another garment should you not want the full on amazingness of two pieces together. The color is a super rich brown with reddish undertones. The rich, pleats are accented by reddish brown piping along the seams of the skirt (do note there are 4 seams, offset to the sides). The jacket is lovely and fitted, with four gilt bronze buttons that bring to mind the Celtic spirit without screaming Blarney! The jacket is lined, the skirt is unlined. The skirt closes with a fine zipper. These pleated Connolly pieces have always been rare, but they are becoming very scarce as museums and private collectors have been actively seeking them out.

The ensemble is in excellent condition. the skirt looks a bit faded in the photos, but that is due to a bright light issue.

It fits like a modern US 6 - 8
