The name Hardy Amies is always followed with "Dressmaker to the Queen", but his talent went far beyond what he made for HRH. Just rent the 1960s movie The Grass is Greener and you will see prime examples of his genius. I watched that film on tenterhooks waiting for the next dress or gown, and I was never disappointed by what I saw. This adorable jacket would have been right at home in that film. It is made of jet black wool with a black silk lining. The bodice is fitted contrasting with the enormous collar that pours over the shoulders in gentle folds. There is a big rose made of wool at the base of the neckline, and fancy, black crystal studded buttons down the front (there is even an extra button sewn in the lining).
The jacket is in excellent condition.
