Tan Giudicelli was born in Indonesia, his mother was from Vietnam, his father was Corsican. He arrived in Paris in 1956, landing a job at Dior, then moving to Heim. In the early 1970s he was the head designer at Mic Mac where he was allowed to show his own creations, often with strong Asian themes. In 1975 he created the costumes for the Story of O (yes, there were a few bits of clothing in that film). Giudicelli found steady work at various fashion houses, including Hermes, and Chloe, and produced small scale evening couture in the late 1970s which retailed in the $1,000 - $3,000 range, carried in the United States only by the most exclusive shops like Saks, Bloomingdales, Martha's and Lou Lattimore in Dallas. In 1984 he found funding for his own ready to wear label, which is the one you most readily find in vintage shops, but this little beauty is one of his early, highly coveted couture gowns.

Made of luscious black velvet, with a bodice bejeweled with cut crystals, sequins and glass beads. The bodice is heavily boned with wire stays sewn in to keep the pointed accents at the top. The gown has a slit up the back, with long zipper down the back and a petersham ribbon inside at the waist. The dress is fully lined.
