1970s Yves Saint Laurent Couture Dress

$ 0.00
If every garment was made with the care and attention of YSL couture, the world would be a more beautiful place.
Looking back at Yves' 1974 Spring runway collection, I notice many of his day dresses, and a few evening gowns feature this pintucked, deep pleated skirting, and little puffed sleeves, with variations on the necklines and cuffs.(the last photo is from that YSL 74 show showing the same dres in stripes) Imagine how exciting it would have been to order this dress... "Oh Yves, I love the purple and fuschia plad, can I have French cuffs on my little dress?"
This dress is a marvel. The fabric is silk, obviously fuschia and violet plad. What a task it must have been to arrange the pleats so they match up so perfectly. They are actually double pleats so there is tons of movement, and they way the pattern peaks from the pleats, its really quite psychedellic. The bodice is attached to the skirt 3/4 of the way around, then there are complex snaps and hooks along the rest of the waistband and faux horn plastic buttons up the front. There is also a tiny metal zipper along the side seam of the skirt. The sleeves end in large French cuffs, the collar comes to dramatic points. Both collar and cuffs are trimmed in a dark fuschia and purple stripe print. There are belt loops, but no belt. The cuffs will need cuff links.
