This adorable skirt took my breath away. At first glance I thought it was a couture 1950s circle skirt, but when I felt the fabric, and saw the way the skirt moved it proved to be more "New Look" than "Rock-A-Billy".
The skirt is in fact not a full circle, but it is very full. I once had a Jaques Fath skirt of an identical cut and fabric, but that lovely had no butterflies. The butterflies are cut from brightly colored felt, sewn onto the dress, and accented with fancy sequins, beads and colored thread. Each one is different, all are darling..
I believe the fabric of the skirt is grosgrain silk. The weight and luxury of the material gives the skirt movement without the need for a crinoline. The only tag in the skirt reads Martha Weathered, a very exclusive shop in Chicago famed for their elaborately beaded flapper dresses, and dreamy frocks..
