1970s Yves Saint Laurent Velvet Jacket and Knickers Ensemble

This is a darling YSL creation. I am thinking this was created sometime between 1978 and 1979 based on the style of the jacket and the knickers which were favored on the runway in 79. One may say its his matador suit, but the jacket is not right for that. The knickers are very much in the matador style but the jacket is leaning towards the Carmen collection. I would say this is one of Yve's flights of fancy, just doing as he saw fit to capture a moment, an idea or just a whim.
The suit is made of dreamy cotton velveteen, the design is embroidered, a lattice and cross pattern. The jacket has faceted black glass buttons, a little stand up collar, puff shoulders and a little peplum. The pants are really cute with a high waist, hip pockets and little bows at the knee. The jacket is lined in black satin. The knickers are unlined. The look is unmistakably Yves Saint Laurent.
