1970s Yves Saint Laurent Dress
These fun, flirty YSL dresses are getting so hard to find these days. Either they have been worn to shreads or are preserved in collections. I suspect this was made for Yves' 1976 Carmen collection as the style is very Spanish and it is very much in line with the known pieces from that collection. The body of the dress is a soft acetate/rayon crepe that has wonderful drape and hangs beautifully on the body. The ruffle accents I believe are silk taffeta. The dress ties on the left shoulder and there is another bow at the left hem to balance the look. The hem sweeps up on the left countering the right sweep of the neckline. Its a dress of contradictions that creates perfect balance. Its a timeless, fun and flirty piece.
