1970s Hubert Latimer Caftan Gown

$ 485.00

You may not recognise the name, but I bet you know Hubert Latimer's work. He started his career in Los Angeles and soon landed a job designing for Irene. In the mid 1970s he was hired by Dior to head the New York design house, then he was hired by Mollie Parnis to head up her couture collections. He left Parnis to start his own label that lasted for a few seasons before he headed back to Parnis. This wonderful gown was created in the 2 years on his own, sometime between 1978 and 1980.
Its a 2 piece gown. There is a full length tank dress made of a luminous crimson silk jersey, and a divine overdress of etherial silk chiffon shot with silver lattice. The chiffon piece is really quite remarkable. The left side has draped caftan style sleeve, and the right has a long, split angel wing style sleeve. It is an extremely interesting and graceful looking gown.

condition: excellent.
