1970s Giorgio di Sant' Angelo Ribbon Dress
Please note that this dress has no Giorgio di Sant' Angelo label but I have found the same dress in a cream color sold by an auction house that was labeled, as well as version of it in shades of blue also labeled on another seller's website, so I am 100% certain this is Sant' Angelo. Please see the last 2 photos here of the labeled dress.
Of course, without even finding the other 2 dresses I knew without a doubt it was Sant Angelo as the dress just exudes Giorgio's signature style of that period. The fact that the only label found in the dress is the Marshal Field's 28 shop isn't at all strange because back then it was very common for department stores to remove the designer labels in exchange for their own. I know, now we roll our eyes and sigh at such a thought, but back in the day labels didn't matter like they do today. So, just keep in mind its unlabeled Sant' Angelo, but it is indeed guaranteed to be and early Sant Angleo, and now lets talk about this wonderful dress.
The base of the dress is a synthetic jersey of tan, covered in beautiful dove gray lace. The lace was then adorned with satin, grosgrain and velvet ribbons as well as bands of cotton lace. The look is ultra bohemian and very, very chic. The dress comes with a cream color satin ribbon to wear around the waist, or if you prefer the look of the undisturbed lace as I do, you can wear the ribbon in your hair. The back closes with a zipper, which then gets covered with a series of buttons to complete the look.
