In the 1970s it became chic to take Victorian and Edwardian clothing and recreate it into something wearable. This is one such piece. The Chantilly lace of the bodice must have been a shawl. The sleeves are yet another fine lace, covered with glorious roses. The beaded ruffle at the bust repeats again at the wrists and the silk lining seems to have been made from a lace trimmed slip. It was a lovingly made piece.
condition: excellent. The neckline is unfinished and frayed, and I believe this was the intention of the maker. The left shoulder has different seaming as the right, and again, I believe this was done by the maker.
