1960s Madame Gres Wool Cape Suit
$ 0.00
Before I discovered this was Gres, I knew this suit was something very special. The fabric seemed to glow with the radiance of a fine cloth. When I put my hands on it, I could feel that it was important. I admired the beauty of the cape, with the kicky button closure and the spunky front pocket. I then admired the exquisite elegance of the skirt. The lining was so expertly done, I began the frantic search for the label. Low and behold, I discovered the tiny Gres Paris label discreetly tucked in the folds of the cape.
The cape is astounding. There are yards and yards of glorious purple wool (broadcloth). It is substantial but is not at all heavy. It was masterfully created to hang perfectly off the shoulders. The front crosses over from shoulder to shoulder on both sides, so the chest is covered by 2 layers of fabric.
The skirt overlaps in the front as well. It is perfectly tailored, with immaculate darts and tucks for an incredible fit. As I mentioned before, the linining of the skirt is incredible. It was all hand stitched to the skirt, and it is also perfectly tailored to the skirt.
