1960s Balenciaga Ball Gown
This is a rare, magnificent couture gown by Balenciaga. As you would expect, the fabric he chose for this creation is absolutely divine. Its a silk taffeta of pale blue with a pale cream undertone. The look and feel is uber rich and lustrous. It seems to glow with a light of its own. The dress is simple, elegant, quintessential Cristobal. The seam down the front is very indicative of his work as is the waist line that drops ever so slightly down in the back. The back is spectacular, its closes at the neck, then is wide open to the little bow. The former owner had a zipper put in the gown at some point to close the open back, but thankfully the person who did the work was very mindful of the original creation, so once it was removed the only evidence left is on the interior and now it is back to its original glory. There are also light perspiration stains under the arms, and one area has some fabric breakage at the seam.
