1910s Silk Walking Coat

Oh my, just look at this amazing bit of history. I believe it dates to somewhere between 1910 and 1920. It is made of pure silk ottoman with a wonderful texture and a beautiful sheen. The print of little diamonds is so interesting and unique, and the placement of each diamond creates a very cool overall effect.

It is a beautifully made coat, unlined though some of the seams are finished with black silk tape. The sleeves have a light puff at the top, then taper down to huge cuffs. The coat has two deep pleats in the back. It closes with a few hooks at the waist, it crosses over itself in a wrap style. The icing on the cake is the little hidden pocket sewn to the interior of the coat that would have made the coat pick-pocket proof.

condition: Excellent save for 3 tiny orangish stains on the left cuff.
