1980s Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking Tuxedo

$ 0.00
I am often thankful for all that Yves brought to our world. He may have not actually been the first to dress women in pants (though often it is stated as such) but he was the first to give the unabashed freedom in wearing men's clothing to women. I consider his Le Smoking suits to be his tribute to women's liberation. From its introduction in 1966, a version of Le Smoking graced every runway until his retirement. This particular suit is one of the most unique I have ever had the pleasure to explore. I date it to the early 1980s.
The fabric is classic tuxedo wool. The lapels and stripes down the leg are a silk satin. The buttons are jet black cut glass, faceted to shine like a gem.
The pants close at the natural waistline. There are deep pockets and front pleats. They are very much styled like men's dress pants. The jacket is just a trip. The lapels are not matched. The left is 5" at the widest, the right is 3" at the widest. The wide left one has a large faceted button to keep it from flopping down. That is a working button so you could release the lapel and wear it across the chest. The smaller is secured to the jacket. The collar is a nehru style, and is very chic. There are large, deep side pockets. The jacket is fully lined in a silky fabric, and there are even extra buttons sewn in the lining.
This is a truly unique Le Smoking ensemble
