1990s Issey Miyake Pearl Coat
This is a magnificent Miyake! I couldn't find the fabric content, but it seems like a polished cotton, but it is finished in a very fine layer of pearl, perhaps paint, or some heat applied finish. The look of the pearl is soft and lovely, not at all flash, very subtle cream. Aside from the amazing fabric, just look at the cut! It's a marvel, like sculpture that moves with the body. My first impression on seeing it on the mannequin is how it resembles one of Cristobal Balenciaga's suit jackets, with that curve and little flounce, but then Issey takes it to the next level with the dramatic sweep down the back, and the inventive protrusion of the fabric in the back. The shoulders are padded and strong, with a little breast pocket and silver plastic buttons. The coat is lined in the same fabric.
