This label really threw me for a loop. Perhaps a few of you die hard McQueen fans will know what you are looking at right off the bat, but I have spent a bit of time piecing together the few bits of information I found on the internet about it. What I gleaned from what I found is that it is a very early label. The Victoria & Albert has a suit with the series of numbers in it's collection with this label that they date to 1995. I have also seen a few other men's pieces with the label, including shoes, as well as a newer piece with the new McQueen label and a clear plastic hang tag that is identical to this and a "vintage" tag as well, which makes me think they reissued his early collections at some point as "vintage'. I am 100% postive this is authentic McQueen, but what puzzles me is the question of if it is a men's or women's jacket! I have only seen the label in men's wear, but this jacket looks totally feminine, but we know Lee was a bit of a gender bender... like in his first collection where he put a man in a tight laced corset down the runway sooooo, who knows.
Setting aside the questions, let me talk about the coat itself. It is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!! Made in Italy, the fill is by the Minardi Piume SLR who have been making fine down products since the 1920s. The fabric is a silky black synthetic, probably nylon. The buttons are gold tone metal, the zipper pulls on the side slash pockets are black. The belt has a gold metal and rhinestone buckle and matching gold/rhinestone gromets. The jacket has princess seams in the bodice and back as well as interseting seams in the arms. The collar, well, you can see how special that is!! It is puffy beyond puffy, and amazingly designed to stand up high on the neck and flow down the shoulders perfectly. This is a rare piece to say the very least.
condition: very good. I see a small repair inside the lining at the armpit. outwardly the fabric is perfect. the gold on the buttons has worn a bit, they still look gold, but close up you see slight fading.
