1980s Bob Mackie Couture Beaded Evening Dress
Most of the Bob Mackies that were available to the "general public" were just shadows of his true genius. This one however, is a true, show stopping, heart pumping, over the top, star quality piece of Bob Mackie couture.
This is not quite a "Cher" dress, but its as close to it as I have ever seen in person. It is all silk, the top layer is black chiffon covered in beads and sequins. Then there are 2 layers of silk, one is nude to give the appearance of being nude, then the dress is lined in black silk. That's 3 layers of silk, and sequins, and beads. This is a weighty dress if you haven't already guessed. The neck area and sleeves are just the black chiffon, the rest is lined. The dress has a sexy sheath cut that glides over the body, but its not constricting or tight. The back has a slight train.
The bead work is all done by hand. I love how the sequins were applied to look like leopard spots. In addition to the beads and sequins, there are rows of cut crystal jewels that look like diamonds around the neck and at the bodice. Soooooo sexy! The dress closes with a back zipper, and little hooks at the neck. There are even little zippers at the wrists.
