1950s Lilli Ann Mohair Coat
This coat is a true knockout! The colors, the texture, the collar... you will never find a coat like this again!!
The glorious fabric for this coat was made in Paris for Lilli Ann, as stated in the label at the hem of this coat. Lilli Ann (Adolph Schuman) was famous for bringing the very best fabrics from France to produce his designs for the American woman. I believe its mohair, it has a longish nap that gives the coat an almost furry look. The colors of electric violet and peacock blue create quite the combination, from up close it looks like a beautiful mottled, from afar you see its actually a large plaid.
The coat has a huge folded collar that stands up around the neck framing the face. There are two buttons at the top and its open to the hem. The coat flairs to the bottom not quite enough to consider it a swing coat style, but enough to have beautiful movement and wonderful folds. The coat is lined in purple satin, and there are deep slash pockets on each hip.
