Though this is not Gres couture, it was produced in Paris, designed by Madam Gres, made under her special authorization by G Mendes who was the only Parisian manufacturer that I know of that Gres contracted with for these authorized reproductions of her couture.
It is by far one of the most delightful coats I have ever cuddled up in. The fabric is a warm, shaggy mohair. The pattern is sublime, stripes of maroon and burgundy.. the coat is put together so beautifully, seamed so the pattern creates a dramatic V down the front, back and down the arms.
The little notched collar can be worn up or down. The coat is lined in black silk taffeta, with deep, hidden side pockets at the hips, and shallow, hand warmer pockets angled right above the waist, more for design than usability. The coat closes with three large, black plastic buttons.
