1980s Patricia Lester Venitian Coat

$ 0.00

An example of this coat is available in the vintage section of the Charles & Patricia Lester website. As described on their site "These coats were extremely difficult to make as the lining and velvet took a skilled sewer to get them together. The two layers were then joined with occasional bead work which followed the pattern of the print. We can repeat these pieces, but they can only be made in the velvet that we currently use as this fabulous velvet is no longer available. "

Indeed, this is a luxurious coat. The velvet is a silk/viscose blend, the lining is pure silk. It is a luminous shade of gray that takes on a touch of purple, with gold stenciling and tiny glass beads. Mrs. Lester claims she never knew of Fortuny when she began producing handmade luxury clothing, but obviously at some point she studied his work because this coat is so Fortuny! I just love how it gathers up the sides creating that soft, upswept back. I also adore the open seams, accented with beads that serve to connect the two pieces of velvet.
