1980s Norma Kamali Embroidered Cocoon Coat
This Kamali creation is ever-so dreamy. It is pure silk, covered with vivid embroidery in the style of a turn of the century piano shawl. The cut is very much like the "Cocoon Coat" made famous by Paul Poiret circa 1920, but of course, Ms Kamali took it to the brink of chic by elongating the collar so far that it can be worn as a hood. The collar has light padding so when you scrunch it up, there is lots of volume so you can sculpt it as you like. You can see in the photos, I had a bit of fun. The coat has no closures and is lined in black silky acetate.
