1960s Christian Dior Mini Dress

$ 0.00
This rare beauty must have been created in the late 1960s. I am guessing 1967 or 68, when Cardin and Courreges were breaking out with their "space age" looks. This dress is enigmatic and quite unique, as it has the sexy cut out holes on either side of the waist, and is cut pretty high for a Dior, yet the choice of this incredible fabric and the very graceful neckline is classic Dior. To me, it seems like Mark Bohan was reaching out to new fashion trends, while keeping his feet planted on good old Dior soil. The result I think is breathtaking.
The fabric is the most glorious blue, woven with gold metallic. Even with all the weight of the gold, the fabric feels etherial, nearly nothing. The dress slips over the head with only closures at the shoulders. The collar has two grand buttons, and several tiny snaps to create the magnificent drape. The open holes at the side are trimmed with gold eyelash. I studied it carefully as it is made to look like the holes are frayed, but in reality, this was a very careful finish, with trim on both sides, applied before the side seams were sewn a the trim continues inside the dress.
The Christian Dior Boutique label is numbered, and though this is not Dior haute couture, it is by all means couture quality. It is one of the finest Dior pieces I have ever seen.
