1950s Jean DessesCocktail Dress

$ 0.00

Of course, we all love Jean Desses' ruched, draped, goddess gowns, but I have to say, I really get a kick out of his lacy, tulle confections too. Take for instance this sweet little cocktail dress made of dotted tulle in a rich navy blue. The strapless bodice has heavy metal stays to keep it in place, and a back zipper for easy on/off. The tulle is ruched over the silk faille to the mid hip, then it explodes down the skirt in bands of ruffles. The ruffle is repeated at the bust as well.

Though this is a "ready to wear" dress, the House of Marie Carine who had the exclusive contract to produce ready to wear for Desses held the same high standards that were expected in the Maison Desses. The tulle and silk faille are absolutely couture quality, the fine workmanship and hand finishes also are what I would expect in haute couture, and the design is absolutely Desses. The only difference is that these were not individually made for a specific patron, rather most were intended for export. In no way think of this as a mass produced dress. The former owner informed me this once belonged to the Duchess of Rutland who was a famous beauty, and an infamous woman.
