1960s Geoffrey Beene Jacket
How darling is this adorable little gem from the 1960s?? Coats just don't get any cuter than this!
There are no fabric tags, but I believe this fun plaid is cotton. The colors are vivid. Bright orange, vivid turquoise, hot pink, yellow and blue. The lining is iridescent peach, perhaps a heavy silk taffeta.
The shoulders are nice and fitted, with two big buttons (identical to the buttons on a Balenciaga I once had) and a dreamy collar. There is a seam across the chest, from there the bodice explodes in pleats and folds, trailing down giving the coat tons of volume. The back is perfectly tailored, smooth, the folds find their own way like a cape, with one kick-pleat at the bottom. Below the two buttons there are hidden snaps to the waist, then open to the hem. The side pockets are hidden.
