1980s Hardy Amies Couture Ball Gown
$ 0.00
At first glance, I figured this was a 1950s Amies creation, but after getting on the mannequin I decided it was probably made in the late 1970s or 1980s. The fabric is a divine silk brocade of black and red with a sweet lily pattern. The bodice is lined in black cotton, the skirt is backed with black tulle, the shoulder area is backed with black velvet.
The cut of the gown is spectacular, bringing to mind later pieces by Westwood and McQueen. The bodice is wonderfully sculpted with lots of tucks. The shoulders flaunt yards of silk, backed with tulle that can be worn up around the neck, or worn low like a shawl. The velvet comes up to points at the shoulders, then drops down to a sexy deep V. The sleeves are puffed towards the shoulder, and very tight on the lower arm. There are stays in the bodice and hooks up the front and at the waist. The skirt is open from the waist to the hem with a gentle transition to the hem, then a good, long train in the back. You can choose to wear a long, tight skirt, a mini skirt, or just leggings under this gorgeous gown.
