1970s Yves Saint Laurent Couture Evening Dress

$ 0.00

This is a perfectly wonderful (numbered 47650) Haute Couture creation by Yves Saint Laurent. It is the perfect combination of glamour and refined elegance that is always going to be in style no matter what the current fashion trends may be.

The fabric Yves chose for this gown is remarkable, etherial, like nothing I have ever seen before. From afar it may seem like sequins, but really the little gold circles were embroidered on the black silk tulle. There are also little florettes of black silk embroidered in the design as well. I have examined the fabric under magnification and it appears all the embroidery work was done by hand. I can't imagine anybody but the House of Lesage could produce a textile as fine as this. The lining of the dress is made from 2 layers of silk chiffon, one brown and one tan. The lining was bias cut so it forms to the body. The tulle was cut to be close to the body in the bust, waist and hips, then it floats out to the hem giving the dress an exquisite little sweep.

The dress seems so simple, but really it was precisely designed and created with the utmost skill to accentuate the female figure. There is a very fine metal zipper hidden on the side. As you would expect, all edges are hand finished, the quality is impeccable.

"When you put something on from Yves Saint Laurent's couture, there is an immediate sensual experience: everything, no matter what it's made of, is always lined in silk. That detail is emblematic of his total attitude toward women. He wants to spoil them, to envelop them in the pleasure of his clothes" Catherine Deneuve
