1940s Gilbert Adrian Friendship Dress

$ 0.00
Adrian dresses are rare, but printed dresses such as this are extremely rare and are very sought after.

The print is wonderful, depicting two fashionable women holding a branch together, a couple of roosters and some thistle like patterns. The black swirl design on the back is not print but rather it was a hand applique of silk. The cut and construction of this dress is masterful. The slouchy shoulders with the darling little flutter sleeve. The black at the waist and hem is so dramatic, but its the super full pleated skirt that really makes this dress special. The fabric seems to go on forever.
When I found this dress there were small gold sequins placed around the ladies heads. They were in very bad shape and I had them removed as per the dry cleaners suggestion as they were celluloid and would have completely melted in the cleaning process. As you can see in the close up photos, there are slight halos and pin holes where the sequins were. Given the rarity and beauty of this piece, this can be forgiven.
