1950s Pedro Rodriguez Beaded Dress

There is good news and bad news about this dress. The good news is it was made by Pedro Rodriguez, styled to perfection from the most remarkable fabric I have ever seen. The bad news is it was altered. I imagine it was a full length ball gown, as the fabric is so rich, but at some point in its history, the owner decided she would like it less formal, so the hem was raised. I also believe the shoulder straps were later additions, probably made from the excess hem. The alterations are not couture but they were well done.
Having said all that, lets get back to the good things. Pedro Rodriguez was the Spain's foremost fashion house, right there along with Cristobal Balenciaga. Rodriguez never went for the full global market, but rather he focused on providing the very best for a Spain's (and those traveling to Spain) fashion elite. His hallmark was classic elegance and the finest fabrics available.
This dress is made from blush pink silk and gold threads. It is embellished with tiny sequins, wrapped cord and prong set crystal jewels. The fabric glows and the jewels sparkle. It is just incredible. The bodice is fully boned and extremely beautifully made. The skirting flairs from the waist to a generous sweep. There is a long V going down the back, giving a very interesting and elegant look. This is truly a dress fit for a princess.
Though this dress will not be chosen for a museum collection due to the alteration, it is very beautiful and very wearable.
