It is one of Halston's spiral cuts where he used insanely long pieces of silk to wrap around the body so there are no seams to disrupt the flow of the chiffon. The outer spiral is a single layer of chiffon, but the base of the dress is a whopping 5 layers of chiffon spiraled around together. There is a ton of silk here, but it weighs almost nothing! The stitching was done is a shade of blueish gray. Its very subtle, adding a slight glisten to the edges of the chiffon. Perhaps Halston wanted to define the edges to show the beautiful spiral he created.
