1990s Lily Samii Formal Gown
Outside the San Francisco Bay area, the name Lily Samii is barely known except for the very astute fashionistas. The reason for this is that she never mass produced, rather, she exists like a true couturier, making one of a kind, made to measure creations for the well heeled SF upper crust. Just google her name and you will see all the well to do of SF in her creaitons.
Lily Samii studied French dressmaking abroad, then completed her degree in fine arts at UCLA. In Los Angeles, she worked part time at the Costume Department of Paramount Pictures and had the coveted position of apprentice for Edith Head. She later worked with James Galanos before coming to San Francisco to open her own boutique.
This gorgeous gown is elegant, yet modern in look and design. The two shades of rich satin beautifully contrasts with the sequin covered, mottle dyed silk chiffon fabric. I love how she pieced the fabrics together in those archetectural angles, building upwards to the bust. The cut of the is simple, elegant and very flattering. The bodice is boned, so it will keep up with your every move. The whole dress is lined with silk satin. The back of the dress is a bit longer to create a slight train.
