1980s Kansai Yamamoto Wicked Le Smoking Jacket
Kansai was never a stranger to the avant garde, but this unique jacket is indeed the most avant garde piece of his I have ever seen. It has elements of the classic tuxedo jacket, or le smoking as the French would say, but Kansai really went wild with the cut, lines and embellishments. The left side is subdued and "normal" the right side has that crazy, pointed, cutwork, embroidered and beaded lapel, and the pointed hem is just outrageous. To put it right over the top Kansai designed the jacquard fabric with Japanese origami elements and his his name right in the fabric.
The jacket is double breasted, fully lined with 3 pockets on the outer, and one inner pocket as well. The inner pocket holds a fabric swatch and an extra button. The jacket was made in Japan.
