1970s IB Jorgensen Devore Gown
The National Museum in Dublin held a retrospective of IB Jorgensen's work in 2011. Born in Denmark, he moved to Ireland as a boy and grew up to become one of Ireland's greatest couturiers.
This dress is a stunning piece, probably dating to the late 1960s or early 1970s. The fabric is a decadent silk devore velvet with lots of metallic gold eyelash type tufts everywhere. It looks like a patchwork of hearts, flowers and diamonds. The dress has buttons down the back of the bodice, a zipper down below the waist, and little buttons at the wrists. It is lined in silk, save for the sleeves which are sheer. It is a beautifully made, couture quality dress with lots of hand sewing throughout.
