1960s Donald Brooks Cherries Dress

Most vintage collectors know the Brooks name. Generally, we think of his later, whimsical creations that reflect his work in the theatre more than is training in couture. This is a classic, early Brooks piece. It shows both graceful elegance , and a fun, unique twist . It is made from wonderful silk, printed in brilliant, vibrant red, pink and green. The dress is fully lined in pink silk organza. It is a lovely, lanky fitted sheath that is made more intriguing by the trains of silk that flow from the shoulders in wide pleats, that are directed along the waist to tie in the front. The effect is lovely. The two little side pockets complete the look as they run the diagonal opposite the direction of the angle of the tie.
