There is always a dialogue amongst vintage collectors regarding what can be, and cannot be considered vintage. Some say it has to be at least 30 years old, I say NO! To me vintage is no so much about age as it is about style, innovation and quality. An old dress may not be vintage if it is unremarkable, likewise, nearly every piece of Versace couture made during his lifetime is vintage in my book. Gianni Versace was born in Reggio Calabria on December 2, 1942. At the age of 25 he decides to move to Milan and works as a fashion designer, drawing his first pret-a-porter collections for Genny, Complice and Callaghan. In 1975 he presented his first leather collection, created for Complice. Three years later, he presented his first Gianni Versace collection. Quickly he gained the attention of the fashion world, winning awards and catering to the rich and famous. His fashion influenced his generation. He was taken from us far to early in 1997 |
