![]() Norman Mailer had a lovely excerpt in his biography of Marilyn Monroe where he recreated conversations between the star and the designer. Later, he admitted he embellished on the conversations, but this one quote always made me smile "Norman Norell gave me my first lesson in style. “It’s not enough to find the problem,” he said, “and avoid it. Elegance is magic. The problem, presto, has to become the solution.” I believe that is why Norell created fashion that always worked, no matter what your flaws. Norman Norell, was one of the most globally respected American fashion designers. His designs centered on the classic silhouette, created with the utmost care and quality. His ambition was not only to dress America's best, but he aspired to reach to Paris and London for customers. Norell's designs have endured as consummate classics, combining mid century modern with classic French couture. |
